Albania

VIVA has been involved in projects in Albania since its inception. In conjunction with a local partner, Heifer Albania, a dairy management course was organised in 2001 and artificial insemination (AI) technicians were trained in 2003.

At present, VIVA is assisting another local Albanian organisation, BOFAK. This is an association of approximately 100 AI specialists. According to its director, Dr. Andrea Trajani, BOFAK aims to provide small herders with an AI service that is both affordable and of a high quality.

VIVA has organised shipments of semen straws and equipment for BOFAK in 2005 (donated by the National Cattle Breeding Centre in Enfield, Co. Meath) and in 2009 (donated by Munster AI, Mallow, Co. Cork).
